Gold Coast Parklands ProjectBrisbane 26 July 2013. The Newman Government will release the Proposed Development Scheme for the Parklands Priority Development Area (PDA) for community feedback on Monday 29 July.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Infrastructure and Planning, Jeff Seeney said the Proposed Development Scheme would enable the construction of the Commonwealth Games Village and outlined potential future development outcomes, including land use, roads, pedestrian and cycle paths and open space.

“The release of the scheme signals the start of the public notification phase which will provide the community with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the proposed scheme and future development,” Mr Seeney said.

“This is a significant development for the Gold Coast, contributing vital infrastructure for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as well as employment opportunities for the region.

“Ultimately the site has the potential for a wide range of development including health and knowledge facilities, housing, community facilities and transport infrastructure after the Games.

“The government has worked closely with the Gold Coast City Council, major stakeholders and various community groups during the planning process.

“This is an exciting time for all the Gold Coast community and I would encourage as many people as possible to be part of the process by reading the proposed development scheme and completing a submission.”

The community can read the Proposed Development Scheme, discuss the proposed plans and provide feedback via a written submission from 29 July until 13 September 2013.

Mr Seeney said the proposed development scheme was available on the Department of State Development Infrastructure and Planning website www.dsdip.qld.gov.au as well as at the EDQ office at 229 Elizabeth Street Brisbane, from Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4:30pm.

The scheme is also available at the Gold Coast City Council Nerang Office at 833 Southport-Nerang Road, Nerang from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm.

Mr Seeney said community engagement sessions would be held on the Gold Coast during August and information would be available at the Gold Coast Show, allowing the community to read the proposed development scheme and discuss the proposals with government staff.

Community information sessions will be held on the Gold Coast on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 7 August, 2013, 3 – 7pm, Sharks Events Centre, corner Musgrave and Olsen Avenues, Southport
  • Saturday 24 August, 2013, 10am – 2pm, Australia Fair Shopping Centre, Marine Parade, Southport

Information will also be available from the Queensland Government Stand in the Creative Arts Pavilion at the Gold Coast Show, 31 August to 1 September 2013.

The Parklands PDA will be home to the Gold Coast 2018 (GC2018) Commonwealth Games Village.  In the longer-term, the PDA will become home to new residents and businesses as part of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Mr Seeney said planning and development within the PDA will allow for both the delivery of the Commonwealth Games Village and longer-term development.

He said once construction was underway, there would be demand for resources from the local construction industry.

It is expected that the proposed developer for the site will be announced in early 2014.
