ANNAPOLIS, Md., Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing an opportunity to strengthen their firms and provide greater services for their clients, LeClairRyan and the Annapolis, Md.-based, national healthcare law firm of Adelman, Sheff & Smith have consolidated their practices.

"Healthcare is one of the fastest growing and most heavily regulated industries, requiring legal counsel that is both agile and experienced," said LeClairRyan Chief Executive Officer David Freinberg. "Our new colleagues from Adelman, Sheff & Smith possess both of those qualities.  Our clients will significantly benefit from their decades of experience and in-depth understanding of healthcare law and regulation as it pertains to hospitals, health systems and other health providers.  We are pleased to welcome them to our team."

While LeClairRyan has a full-service, multi-disciplinary practice, Adelman's team of 11 attorneys primarily focus on representing healthcare providers and facilities on federal and state compliance, complex regulatory and litigation matters in addition to a wide range of general corporate services for entities in the healthcare industry. The firm's clients include large health systems, hospitals, ambulatory care centers, nursing homes, large physician practices and individual healthcare providers.

"Everyone in our firm is excited to join forces with LeClairRyan," said Al Adelman of Adelman, Sheff & Smith. "We will have access to a much greater depth of talent that will provide a great deal of value to our clients. Combining our healthcare practice with LeClairRyan's labor and employment, construction, IP and other practices will help us provide a full range of legal services to healthcare providers across the country. At the same time, this will afford us opportunities for professional growth in a firm whose culture and core values are similar to those we have carefully cultivated over the years."

The consolidated firm, which will continue to be known as LeClairRyan, will have 344 attorneys, 673 employees and 22 offices in 10 states and the District of Columbia. The attorneys and staff of Adelman, Sheff & Smith will remain in their current offices in Annapolis, Md. and Glenwood Springs, Colo.  The firm will have approximately 40 employees focused on various areas of law facing healthcare providers and facilities.

Adelman's firm was established in 1995 and quickly grew it into one of the nation's strongest firms focused exclusively on healthcare law. A significant recent addition to the firm, Lew Morris, joined Adelman, Sheff & Smith in 2012 after retiring from his role as chief counsel to the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. "Having Lew join our firm, as well as Kristin Bohl, who was formerly the technical advisor in the Division of Technical Payment Policy at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), were huge steps for us," said Adelman. "Their choice to join our ranks not only bolstered our ability to represent healthcare providers, but helped us become recognized as a major player within the industry. Joining forces with LeClairRyan is the next major milestone in our story."
