CHRISTIANSTED, Virgin Islands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lifeline Pharmaceuticals, LLC, and its sister company Lifeline Pharmaceuticals Caribbean, LLC, a U.S. Virgin Islands-based company, donated 600 doses of flu vaccine to the Virgin Islands Department of Health, Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center and the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital on September 4-5, 2013.

“We know that the flu season is particularly aggressive in the Virgin Islands during the peak tourism season”

Both companies are wholesale distributors of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, founded by Miami-based entrepreneur Rick Nielsen, a native of St. Croix.

Lifeline Caribbean’s Board of Directors administers its philanthropic endeavors and is comprised exclusively of the following native Virgin Islanders:

  • Rick Nielsen, President & CEO
  • Peter C. Nielsen, President, Lifeline Pharmaceuticals Caribbean, LLC
  • Hurchell Greenaway, Jr., Chief Operating Officer & Compliance Manager
  • Ben Rivera, Jr., Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer
  • Carlos Zenon, Vice President of Purchasing and Procurement

The Board continually seeks ways to positively impact the quality of life in the Virgin Islands through the donation of goods, funds and time. “We know that the flu season is particularly aggressive in the Virgin Islands during the peak tourism season,” said Rick Nielsen. “We want to do our part to help protect our people, particularly the most susceptible segments of the population which are the elderly and young children under the age of 5,” Nielsen said.

Virgin Islands Health Commissioner Darice Plaskett said, “This type of collaboration enables us to reach more people and expand access to preventive care such as the flu vaccine. We extend our appreciation to Lifeline for the generous contribution of flu vaccine to the US Virgin Islands. Lifeline’s contribution is a fine example of public/private collaboration for the benefit of the people of the Virgin Islands.”

Lifeline Caribbean’s Board originally joined forces with Virgin Islands Senate President Shawn Michael Malone, Senate Vice President Sammuel Sanes and Senator Kenneth Gittens, Vice Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Health and Hospitals to identify a timely and meaningful donation for immediate benefit to the Virgin Islands community.

“When successful Virgin Islanders remember their roots and return to aid the community they were raised in, it has tremendous meaning beyond the initial impact,” said Senator Gittens. “Mr. Nielsen and his Board at Lifeline Pharmaceuticals are setting an example for current and future generations of Virgin Islanders to follow as they gain success whether at home or abroad,” Gittens said.

“We have been very fortunate in our business, and we are always pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the people of the Virgin Islands,” concluded Nielsen.
