BOERNE, Texas, Dec. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- As impressive as the class of compact cars for Chevrolet has been over the last few years with outstanding models like the 2014 Chevy Cruze, their slightly smaller cousins in the sub-compact world have been improving just as quickly. There is a not much better example of this than the 2014 Chevy Sonic available at Cavender Chevrolet near San Antonio, TX. The new Sonic comes in two body styles, a sedan or a hatchback. Chevrolet has chosen to go with these two versions of the vehicle to make sure that the most needs can be met for the most people possible.

Powering the 2014 Chevy Sonic, in most cases is a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 138 horsepower. While the Sonic may not strike fear in the hearts of those at the drag strip, it is not meant to do that either. The new Chevy Sonic is all about being a highly fuel-efficient vehicle known for its reliability. There is also a turbocharged 1.4-liter option that raises the Environmental Protection Agency fuel-economy scores up to 26 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. A five-speed manual transmission with hill-start assist is standard equipment on the 2014 Sonic.

Those looking for a bit more excitement to their ride can have the option of looking at the RS trim of the 2014 Chevy Sonic hatchback. This "hot hatch" features the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The change comes with the way the six-speed is geared to give the Sonic RS a bit more acceleration.

As with most vehicles, safety is a primary concern for many buyers. The 2014 Chevy Sonic has a pair of highly advanced safety systems whose primary function is to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. Starting off the new suite of safety electronics is the lane departure warning. This system uses sensors placed around the car to read the lines on the road and alert drivers when they may be crossing traffic unintentionally. The other system is forward collision warning that uses a radar or ultrasonic signals to measure the distance from the source car to the traffic ahead and provide a warning when the system senses a crash in likely immanent.
