RESTON, Va., Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row Stanley Martin Homes accepted the prestigious "Home of the Year" award at last Thursday's Great American Living Awards (GALA) in Tyson's Corner.  The Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA) and Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) gathered with the best of the best in building, to recognize industry leaders in sales, marketing, merchandising, and architectural design.

Over 100 awards were given for various products and price points, each determined by a committee of building industry experts.  The final two awards of the evening were the "Home of the Year – Detached," more commonly referred to as "single-family home" and "Home of the Year – Attached," or "townhome."  Home of the Year represents the very best in show in architectural design and merchandising and Stanley Martin is thrilled to have earned this tremendous honor for one of their designs back-to-back years.

Last year the Reston-based builder won for their Augusta model at Foxhall Ridge in Northwest, DC.  Foxhall Ridge is a niche community of ultra high-end townhomes with rooftop terraces, elevators, and prices ranging from $1 – 2 million.  The community is currently in its final phase of selling with four homes remaining.

This year Stanley Martin won for their Sussex model in Oakton East, just off Blake Lane in Oakton, Virginia.  Although the Sussex is technically a townhome, it is unique in that it lives and feels much more like a single family home, making it an ideal choice for buyers looking for big square footage and less yard.  This highly-sought after community is slated to sell out less than a year from its February 2013 opening, as only two homes remain for sale.

In response to the award, Stanley Martin's President, Steve Alloy, shares; "When we design our floorplans, it is our goal to create highly-functional homes built for the way people live today.  Meaningful recognition such as this, combined with our tremendous sales success, affirms that we are indeed accomplishing our goal."
