NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today that Matt Carter, associate principal, has relocated from Hong Kong to the firm's New York office to assume the position of Americas Long Span Bridge Leader. In this role, Matt will be responsible for building on the firm's recent project successes to grow the firm's regional long span bridge capability while responding to opportunities in the marketplace, especially in the Design-Build sector.

Matt has been with Arup for 16 years and was located in Hong Kong for the past ten. There, he was the manager of major bridge projects in East Asia and the global leader of Arup's Bridge Skills Network.
Notable recent projects include the Forth Replacement Crossing in Scotland, Incheon Bridge in Korea, and Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong which are three of the longest span cable stayed bridges in the world. Matt's long span, cable supported bridge experience. Through his work on major bridge projects, Matt has gained in-depth experience in the seismic design of bridges and ship collision risk. In addition, Matt has experience with major precast post-tensioned concrete viaduct projects, both on land and over sea including the Second Penang Bridge in Malaysia and the Temburong Bridge in Brunei.

Matt holds a first class master's degree in civil engineering from Cambridge University. He is a chartered engineer and a member of Institution of Civil Engineers, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineers (IABSE).
