CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UTC Aerospace Systems congratulates Bombardier on today's successful first flight of the CSeries* aircraft. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
"As a member of the supplier team for the Bombardier CSeries* aircraft, it was especially rewarding to see the CSeries aircraft rise so beautifully and quietly into flight," said Mike Dumais, president, Power, Controls and Sensing Systems. "We proudly supply multiple systems, each of which is designed to contribute to the performance and operational goals of this advanced new aircraft."
"First flight is an exciting key milestone for the CSeries aircraft," said Dave Gitlin, president, Aircraft Systems. "We are laser-focused on supporting Bombardier on the many upcoming critical milestones as we all gear up for entry-into-service."
Among the systems that UTC Aerospace Systems supplies is the electric power generation and distribution system. This system generates electrical power via two variable frequency generators, and provides power distribution and load management through primary power centers and five secondary power assemblies. Aircraft emergency power is available via an electric air-driven generator.
UTC Aerospace Systems also supplies the complete nacelle system and thrust reverser actuation system for the CSeries aircraft's Pratt & Whitney PurePower™ PW1500G engines, as well as the engine control system, which comprises 58 components and fulfills requirements of the electronic hardware and software, ignition, sensing, fuel, pneumatic and thermal management systems. The CSeries aircraft's engine is a step change in noise/emission and fuel burn technology, and is a key contributor to a lower-weight, high-performance propulsion system.
Other systems that UTC Aerospace Systems is supplying on the CSeries aircraft include the fully integrated high lift, flap and slat actuation system; primary ice detection system; fire detection and protection system; as well as the external, cockpit, maintenance and interior lighting systems. UTC Aerospace Systems also supplies the next-generation SmartProbe™ air data system that provides all critical air data parameters for the CSeries aircraft's flight control and pilot display systems.
UTC Aerospace Systems designs, manufactures and services integrated systems and components for the aerospace and defense industries. UTC Aerospace Systems supports a global customer base with significant worldwide manufacturing and customer service facilities.
