Brisbane 24 June 2013. A large free public event will be held in Post Office Square from 3pm on Wednesday 26 June in another exciting extension of Brisbane’s public spaces showing their colours during a massive month of football.
To celebrate the second State of Origin match, economic development agency Brisbane Marketing and Rush Bar Dining Express have organised a giant outdoor screen broadcasting blow by blow the second State of Origin match live from 8pm in Post Office Square - the next best place to take in the action for those without tickets to Suncorp Stadium. A fully-licensed outdoor area will be created in Post Office Square from 3pm, directly in front of Rush Bar Dining Express with lots to see and do in the build-up to kick-off.
Brisbane Marketing is working with Tourism and Events Queensland on a range of initiatives throughout The City in June, as part of the Show Your Colours campaign, encouraging retailers, accommodation, restaurants, cafes and bars to create a lively atmosphere during the football games taking place here in June. “With seven huge games of football on in Brisbane this month, the city will welcome around 70,000 visitors, generating $17.7 million for the local economy,” Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said. “It’s great to see retailers, hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars working together during this month of footy fever to ensure Brisbane provides a colourful welcome. A dedicated Show Your Colours website and activity guide is available to help fans make the most of Brisbane’s lifestyle, events and activities.”
Rush will fire up a footy-themed barbecue, complete with gourmet burgers as well as a selection of tapas – perfect fodder for footy fans! They will also have a full bar operational serving a mix of traditional Queensland (of course), and imported beers.
Rush Bar Dining Express General Manager Donna Di Santo said the atmosphere was sure to be lively. “We’re hoping to get a good mix of Maroons and Blues supporters which should make for a great atmosphere on the night and some playful banter, ” she said.
