How to Maintain Your Perfect Bathroom

Once you have the perfect bathroom, the thought of anything happening to it is, frankly, unthinkable. After all the time and money you have spent, the smallest room in your house deserves a lot of care and attention to stay sparkling and spa-like. Luckily, there are a few things you can do that take almost no effort and will certainly prolong the life of your gorgeous room.

Always Keep Some Spare Tiles

Since bathrooms are so full of pipes and water, it is likely that at some point in the future, you are going to encounter a leak at some point. Even the best bathroom fittings age and may require fixing later on. While this might seem like a complete disaster from the point of view of maintaining your perfect bathroom, with a little forward planning, you can easily fix any leak without destroying the whole room.

Request that your plumber uses acoustic leak detection to find the exact location of the leak without having to break tiles while searching. This method is ideal because it uses sound to locate a leak and can be very accurate. Once you have found the leak, you need only remove a couple of tiles - this is where having a few spare tiles is ideal. Just use a spare if one gets damaged in the process.

Stay on Top of Your Grouting

Damp and mildew are inevitable in a room like a bathroom and keeping on top of it will help to increase the lifespan of your tiles and grouting as well as make the room much pleasanter to be in. As grout is porous and generally quite light in colour, it is the most likely place for dirt to build up. However, a very cheap way to remove the dirt is using baking soda and vinegar.

If you can stay on top of the condition of your grouting each week then this will make it much easier to maintain long term. Smaller stains can be treated with white toothpaste or even a white eraser, so no stain is too small to tackle quickly.

Add Some Plants

Many bathrooms are poorly ventilated, another reason why so much mildew occurs. However, adding plants may help to filter the air and take in some of the excess moisture too. Orchids are a popular plant for bathrooms because they love the steamy air from the shower which resembles their natural habitat.

To keep your surfaces clean and tidy, using hooks in the ceiling to suspend hanging baskets is a brilliant way to introduce plants into your bathroom with minimal fuss. You may also need to wipe down the leaves every couple of weeks just to ensure that dust isn’t allowed to gather there.

With a few simple ideas like this, your perfect bathroom will stay beautiful for much, much longer. Staying on top of your weekly cleaning routine will help to banish any unpleasant smells and opening the windows to let out any steam is always a good way to minimise the occurrence of mildew and mould.
