It's A Green World: Making Your Office An Eco Friendly Place

All around the world, people are trying to make sure that they live more eco friendly lives. From walking instead of driving small distances, to ditching plastic bags and carrying cloth ones around with you to put your groceries in, to making sure that your carbon footprint is as low as it can possibly be, we’re all making small environmentally friendly changes in our lives in every way that we can. When it comes to work, though, it’s definitely true that a lot of us could make more of an effort. Here are some tips to help out

Go Paperless

First and foremost, it’s time to start going paperless as much as you possibly can. Paper is a thing of the past and the best thing about it is probably the fact that it is easy to recycle. Other than that, it tends to use up the earth’s valuable resources and clutter up your office much more than you’d like it to. Using paper also means that you need to invest in extra storage for your office so that you have somewhere to keep it, which might make your office space feel much more crowded and dark. Do as much as you can online and you’ll be doing both yourself and the planet a favour.

Encourage Recycling In The Office

Recycling in the office is absolutely vital. The vast majority of offices have a paper bin where you can throw all the paper that you no longer need, from old to-do lists to magazines to print outs that you no longer need. Of course, that recycling bin is absolutely vital and shouldn’t be disposed of - you need somewhere to put all that trash paper if you haven’t gone paperless yet. But it’s also important to think about recycling in other aspects of your company. If you have hand dryers in your bathrooms, switch to paper towels, which can be recycled and won’t use up as much energy. If you have an office kitchen, set up carefully labelled recycle bins for any glass, plastic and card that people might be using.

Quit Using Plastics

As much as you can, it’s time to stop using plastics at work. If you’re remodelling your office, make sure that the commercial construction team use natural materials like stone, metal, wood and glass as much as they can. Not only is it more durable and better for the environment, but let’s face it - it looks a lot more stylish than plastic does too.

Focus On Green Spaces

Finally, it’s time to start to reintroduce the colour green back to the workplace. Walls painted pale shades of natural colours like blue and green will help to make your staff feel happy and relaxed, and any plants in your office will also help the general atmosphere of peace and harmony. Added oxygen from plants like ferns, succulents and pot plants will help to purify the atmosphere and add more oxygen to it, and adding a small inside or outside garden will enable your staff to have somewhere where they can eat lunch surrounded by peace and beauty, and go to reflect on their work if they’re having a rough day.
