Daniel Andrews again called out on his subservience to CFMEU

Canberra 5 February 2015. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has once again been embarrassed by his sycophantic relationship to John Setka and the CFMEU.

Today in the Financial Review, Boral CEO Mike Kane has called out Mr Andrews on his abolition of the Victorian Building Code, stating that:

"This is the Victorian government taking a stand on behalf of the thugs and the crooks who run the Victorian branch of the CFMEU construction arm”

Mr Kane has also highlighted the sneaky attempts by Mr Andrews to attempt to disguise the abolition of the Code in a media release about children’s vaccinations:

“To me this is an indication that they didn't want to be public about how beholden they are to John Setka and the CFMEU… Everything I read says these two are in lockstep with each other.”

Mr Kane has also called out the abolition of the Building Code as the payment of a “political debt” to the CFMEU by Daniel Andrews.

This policy was first announced by Mr Andrews himself at the 2012 Victorian ALP state conference, with Mr Andrews proudly standing next to CFMEU bosses Dave Noonan and Bill Oliver.

Since that time, the CFMEU has donated $668,000 to the Victorian Labor Party.

“It’s no wonder that Daniel Andrews is trying to hide from his abolition of the Victorian Construction Code”, Minister Abetz said today.

“This policy was always a very deliberate pay-off to his favourite union the CFMEU. However, whilst Premier Andrews now obviously feels embarrassed by it, this does not change the reality that the policy has been implemented and he has given John Setka exactly what he wanted”.

“Premier Andrews’ fawning relationship with the CFMEU and his inability to even admit to what he is doing to gratify the union is frightening sign of things to come in Victoria,” Senator Abetz said.

Unfortunately, the State’s most corrupt union has been given the keys to the Premier’s office and Premier Andrews will be too weak to resist its demands.”

“This action by the Victorian Government once again illustrates the urgent need to re-introduce the Australian Building and Construction Commission,” Senator Abetz said.
