Builders sought for Onslow land release

Monday, 4 November 2013. Call for housing designs from qualified builders for 44 house and land packages available in Stage 1

LandCorp is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from builders to develop a range of house and land package design options for its upcoming residential land release in Onslow.

Up to five builders will be selected to share in a pool of 44 house and land package lots across Stage 1.

Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the builders needed to submit two designs that complied with the requirements of the Onslow Design Guidelines.

“In addition, one design needs to be an affordable home, while the other design can be a high-end showcase home,” Mr Grylls said.

“A catalogue of the winning designs will then be produced to give purchasers a great array of choice and prices.

“By bringing a range of new builders to town with products ready to go, purchasers will be able to realise their new home much quicker.”

The Minister said LandCorp’s new estate would be the first significant residential land release in Onslow in 20 years and was a key part of the State Government’s Pilbara Cities vision for the town.

As well as the 44 house and land lots, more than 100 single lots will be released in stages and will be made available to the public with preference going to locals.

“The State Government is working hard to address the unprecedented demand for housing in the town due to Chevron’s Wheatstone and BHP Billiton’s Macedon domestic gas projects,” Mr Grylls said.

“We expect the population of Onslow to grow from 700 to 2,200 people over the next three years.”

LandCorp is working with the Department for State Development, Shire of Ashburton and a number of other departments and agencies to release residential, commercial and industrial land for the long-term benefit of the town.

Fact File

Stage 1 will be released early next year and will expand the Onslow town site by about 20ha, providing a total of 220 lots
