PARIS, Jan. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MIPIM today announces the 28 finalists for the 2014 MIPIM Awards, selected by a jury of international real estate professionals.

This year's MIPIM Awards include two new categories "Best Urban Regeneration Project" and "Best Innovative Green Building."

"Environmental, social and demographic issues are shaping the future of real estate buildings and are spurring the industry to build a city model that is more sustainable. The launch of these two new MIPIM Awards categories acknowledges the know-how and the expertise of those who are successfully meeting the challenges of this new development," explains Filippo Rean, MIPIM Director.

Commenting on the global trends in this year's MIPIM Awards, President of the Jury, Michael Strong, Executive Chairman EMEA, CBRE, noted: "We had a tremendous response to the competition again in 2014, with a truly diverse range of projects to judge. It's interesting that many more submissions are for residential development or mixed-use including residential. It is clear that there is much more creativity around the design and expansion of residential living in city centres."

MIPIM Awards winners will be chosen in Cannes by a combination of the MIPIM delegates and the international jury, each group representing 50% of the final vote.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Special Peoples' Prize rewards the development that wins the most votes online before MIPIM opens. The public can vote for this category as of 3 February on the MIPIM site and on the official event Facebook page.

The Jury will also pay tribute to a project from each 2014 Country of Honour: Brazil, Russia and Turkey.
