SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Honda has gotten serious about upholding their title as one of the most eco-friendly car manufacturers. Hybrid technology is creeping into just about every single one of their new models. Models which have never had a hybrid option are now beginning to offer one. Their hybrid technology was first seen in 1999 under the hood of the Honda Insight. Many changes have come in the last 14 years, and the fact remains that the Honda Insight is a fierce competitor in the hybrid market. Especially with the newly improved 2014 Honda Insight ready to step foot in the ring.

The subcompact hatchback is one of the least expensive hybrids currently available. Although the 2014 Insight has grown in size from last year, it's still a smaller sized hybrid which makes it difficult to fit five full-sized passengers. However, head and leg room is spacious in the front, which makes it a great car for commuters who travel to work by themselves. Room in the back seat is more than adequate for smaller passengers.

The small size has a purpose. It's what allows the 2014 Honda Insight to get an impressive 42 mpg combined fuel economy rating. The excellent fuel economy comes from the combination of a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor. The motor tacks on 14 horsepower, putting the overall output for the Insight at 98 horsepower. The motor and engine don't power the vehicle themselves, rather they work in tandem. On top of adding to the horsepower, the motor supplements the 123 lb-ft of torque and gives the engine the juice it needs to power up after a complete stop. It also keeps the hybrid from having to be plugged in as it acts as a generator for the lithium-ion battery.

Features in the high-end Insight EX trim include automatic headlights, automatic climate control, heated side mirrors and paddle shifters equipped on the back of the steering wheel to allow the driver to become fully immersed in the driving experience. Consumers are also likely to enjoy the six-speaker premium audio system which helps to fill the newly designed cabin.

The 2014 Honda Insight has not been released yet, but consumers can expect it to go on sale by the end of the year, if not sooner. The best-valued hybrid will soon be available in San Antonio.
