Van Lowe is best known as a writer and producer on Bill Cosby's "The Cosby Show," which brought us 197 episodes of Dr. Cliff Huxtable and his family. Van Lowe also created his own semiautobiographical ABC TV series, "Where I Live," as well as wrote and produced on such sitcoms as "Even Stevens," "Homeboys in Outerspace," and "Roc." He's also been nominated for an Emmy and Academy Award.
The four books of The Falling Angels Saga follow Glendale, Arizona, high school student Megan Barnett after her mother, Suze, starts dating again after ten years. Megan is convinced the charming art dealer her mother meets, Armando, is really Satan. So begins an incredible journey that also involves an array of dark forces as well as a sexy, fallen teenage angel, Guy Matson.
"I've wanted to write books since I was ten years old," says Van Lowe."Throughout my career in TV and film I always knew I was going to return to my great love one day. Now I'm back to writing books, and it feels great."
Reviewers are drawn to his humor as much as to all the drama that occurs. As critic and author Anabelle Blume (Frozen Heart) writes, "Van Lowe's story telling is seamless. In a sea of dark and gritty YA, E. Van Lowe's Falling Angels Saga gives readers a hopeful tale of love, friendship, and family." Adds Amanda Ashby, author of "Zombie Queen of Newbury High," "E. Van Lowe is a writing force to be reckoned with and you are in masterful hands from the first page to the last."
Why did he choose to write for young adults? "I wasn't planning on writing YA. The genre chose me," he says. "In 2001, I developed a show for the Disney Channel, "Even Stevens." I discovered during the process that I remembered my teen and pre-teen years as if it were yesterday-not so much the actions of those years, but the intense emotions. After "Even Stevens," I came up with an idea for another TV show that Disney didn't buy. I tried to sell it to Nickelodeon, but there was no interest there, either. So I decided to write it as a novel. A third of the way in, I abandoned the idea, and wrote Never Slow Dance with a Zombie. I've been writing paranormal YA with humor ever since."
The first book in The Falling Angels Saga, called "Boyfriend from Hell" is an eBook best seller and has already been optioned, first as a TV series and now as a feature film. Will there be more of Megan Barnett in books? "The series stands on its own," says Van Lowe. "Now I'll have to think of something else. I'm always writing."
The four books of "The Falling Angels Saga" — "Boyfriend from Hell," "Earth Angel," "Heaven Sent," and "Falling" — are published by White Whisker Books and can be found in print and as eBooks for Kindle, Nook, iPad, and other readers. White Whisker Book's website is www.WhiteWhiskerBooks.com
