Rentrak Announces Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of Jan. 5, 2014

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of Jan. 5, 2014 as compiled by the company's Box Office Essentials™ and International Box Office Essentials™ theatrical measurement services.

Coupled with the official reported data, studios are able to analyze admissions and gross results in over 50 territories using Rentrak's suite of products.

Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, "It was a momentous weekend at the international box office with Warner Bros. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continuing to thrill the international marketplace adding another $58 million in 62 international territories and bringing its worldwide total to over $750 million.  Disney's animated "Frozen" also had a spectacular run this weekend topping the North American box office in its seventh weekend of release, adding another $52.5 million internationally in 49 territories and more importantly Frozen has now crossed the $600 million mark globally, making it the highest grossing Disney Animation release of all-time behind only The Lion King."
