Online Reviews – Is Anyone Really Who They Claim to Be?  Daniel W. Draz, M.S.,CFE  Principal  Fraud Solutions  Recently, New York Attorney General Schneiderman announced an agreement with 19 companies to stop writing fake online reviews and pay more than $350,000 in fines resulting from'Operation Clean Turf,' a year-long undercover investigation into reputation management industry, astroturfing and false endorsements. Says Draz: "Using the 80-20 fraud rule, with 20 percent being known and 80 percent being unknown, the reality is that this business practice is far more prevalent and widespread than even this settlement implies and goes to the heart of Web-based business, e-commerce, social media apps and online profiles where anyone can easily pretend to be anyone, or anything, online. As the ad says, 'Where'd you hear that?' 'On the Internet!' While most online terms of service agreements specifically prevent the creation of false profiles, the reality is that many people (and companies) still do it and the practice is widespread today. Combine fake online and social media profiles with review writing and the ability to hype various products, services, companies or stocks and you have a significant false advertising network to deceive consumers -- all of which falls under the general fraud or business statutes for every state in the country concerning misrepresentation or deceptive business practices, in addition to the obvious issue of conducting business unethically." Drazis the principal of Fraud Solutions, a global fraud consulting firm located outside Chicago. He is a recognized leader in the fraud profession, providing innovative enterprise anti-fraud risk management strategies, insightful observations, fraud training and thought leadership to clients. He has extensive corporate fraud management (prevention, detection, investigation, risk, ethics, audit, compliance and legal) experience across a number of different industry verticals and works with companies to improve their enterprise fraud risk management efforts and reduce major fraud losses. Additionally, he is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), has a master's in economic crime management, and is an adjunct professor at four colleges, where he teaches a variety of fraud, white-collar crime and financial crime classes for industry professionals.  Website: http://www.fraudsolutions.com  Expert Contact: Daniel W. Seniors Hit by Steep IRS Penalties for Innocent Oversights Made With IRAs Ronald Fatoullah, Esq.  New York Elder Law Attorney  Ronald Fatoullah & Associates  "Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) called on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as they increase their enforcement of Individual Retirement Account (IRA) contribution or withdrawal errors, to reassess the steep penalties that taxpayers face for innocent mistakes. Because of the IRS's new crackdown policy, many senior citizens, who are unaware of errors they are committing when it comes to managing their IRAs, could be facing steep financial penalties that they can't afford." Fatoullah, Esq., founder of Ronald Fatoullah & Associates, has been advising New Yorkers about the legal and financial challenges of aging for more than 30 years. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Elder Law Section of the NYS Bar Association, selected as a "SuperLawyer", voted one of New York's "Best Lawyers" in the fields of elder law and trusts and estates for seven consecutive years, and most recently honored by the NYS Bar Association for his advocacy, persistence and drafting of the New York Adult Protective Guardianship Act. He has offices in Manhattan, Queens, Long Island and Brooklyn. Website: http://www.fatoullahlaw.com   Media Contact: Carol Schell, cschell@fatoullahlaw.com

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Dr. Michael Coppola Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs/Chief Compliance Officer NovaSom, Inc. "Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is estimated to affect 43 million Americans, yet 85 percent are unaware they have it. Because sleep apnea can have dangerous effects and can be controlled by a variety of different treatment options, I've made it my goal to have anyone who suspects themselves or their partner/spouse of having sleep apnea, to get tested. Home sleep testing is one way that we can make diagnosis easier and more affordable, dramatically reducing time to therapy." An expert on all things sleep-related, Dr. Coppola is available for stories related to sleep, sleep apnea, etc. He is currently the executive vice president of medical affairs at NovaSom, creators of AccuSom, an FDA-cleared home sleep test which allows consumers to test for sleep apnea in the comfort of their own beds. He is able to provide statistics related to OSA and a variety of demographics as well as the co-morbidities associated with the condition (stroke, heart attacks, weight gain, etc.). He is the past president and chief medical officer of the American Sleep Apnea Association, a patient advocacy group, and is board certified in internal medicine, critical care and sleep medicine. He recently became an associate clinical professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Who Has to Pay Attorney Fees in Divorce? Brad LaMorgese Family Law Attorney McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing, L.L.P. "Among the many laws that went into effect on Sept. 1 in Texas is an addition to the Texas Family Code stating that courts *may* award legal fees and expenses to be paid by one of the parties in a divorce. Courts typically have included legal fees as 'necessaries' that are part of one spouse's requirement to support the other while the divorce is pending. But the Supreme Court of Texas' May 2013 ruling in Tedder v. Aldrich declared that such fees aren't considered 'necessaries.' This new law was intended to address that finding and give courts permission to award fees. We're glad the legislature and Gov. Perry addressed the availability of legal fees in divorce, but the courts still have a lot of discretion to order – or *not* order – legal fees to be paid. Unless a premarital agreement says otherwise, legal fees should be considered 'necessary.'" Media Contact: Amy Hunt, amy@androvett.com

EXPERT ROUNDUP: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Following are more than 50 experts on breast cancer who are available for interviews for Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

Marissa Howard-McNatt, M.D. Director, Breast Care Center Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center "I tell women there are no good studies to show that removing both breasts will improve their overall survival. We're not sure this is helping them, but they're still choosing to have both removed. There is a fear factor at play for many women who face these decisions." Dr. Howard-McNatt is an experienced surgeon whose area of expertise and practice is breast disease (both benign and malignant). Her present research interests are focused in clinical and translational breast cancer projects with a focus on elderly and minority populations. She has who has also conducted research (published in The American Journal of Surgery) into why women choose to have double or contralateral mastectomies when cancer isn't present in both breasts, and looked at the safety of breast reconstruction after mastectomy for older women. Media Contact: Bonnie Davis, bdavis@wakehealth.edu

Susan Melin, M.D. Associate Professor of Hematology and Oncology Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center "One of the first questions I get from my patients is, 'Am I going to lose my hair?' Being able to safely prevent chemotherapy-induced hair loss may relieve patients of some of the emotional stress they are already going through." Dr. Melin is primary investigator of a new clinical trial to test medical scalp-cooling technology for women undergoing chemotherapy for early stage breast cancer treatment. The FDA approved in June the Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) application for Dignitana's patented DigniCap System and a multi-center trial is underway. The trial is the second and final phase of study in the United States and will pave the way for FDA market approval of the scalp-cooling device, which is already widely used overseas. She is available to speak about the treatment and effects of the DigniCap. Media Contact: Bonnie Davis, bdavis@wakehealth.edu

Bobbie Smith Bra-Fitting Expert "After overcoming breast cancer, women should celebrate being a survivor, yet they still face challenges as simple as finding the perfect bra to accommodate their new shape. Many people don't realize the difference that the correct cut, height and angle of the bra and underwire can not only help the breast heal in the correct form, but it can give survivors the confidence they need to feel comfortable in their own skin. Some women have experiences being fit in a department store where the fitter recoils from the sight of their scar tissue. Others don't want to show their scars and try to find options on their own, just to get more depressed when they can't find anything." Smith has helped fit over 22,000 women, and provides women with the solutions they might not be able to find on their own. She is currently the fit expert at Freshpair, a leading online bra and underwear retailer that offers many options for women post-mastectomy, including post-surgical compression bras and bras with pockets to hold a breast form. She holds private fit consultations via Skype, perfect for breast cancer survivors to find their perfect bra right in the comfort of their own home, and she also has a personal fitting room in New York City that will open to the public in 2012. Dr. Kenler is focused on laparoscopic surgery and treatment for breast cancer. He centers his practice on providing his patients state-of-the-art care in an environment of compassion and understanding as well as advancements in testing and technology. One area he is most passionate about is preventing biopsy misidentification errors from happening -- where a patient receives the wrong cancer diagnosis due to errors made within the biopsy process, leading to wrongful treatment and surgeries. Dr. Kenler offers his patients the only DNA test available, know error system, to avoid these errors form happening. A board certified general surgeon, Dr. Kenler earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York City, and completed his surgery training at the prestigious New England Deaconess Hospital, part of the Harvard Medical School system in Boston. Daniel Landis, M.D., Ph.D. Radiation Oncologist Swedish Medical Center in Seattle "I truly enjoy the challenge of caring for cancer patients. A diagnosis of cancer can be overwhelming for a patient and their family. From the beginning, we will review the diagnosis in detail, the treatment options, and the potential results of each option, including possible side effects. I enjoy seeing my patients over time, during the course of treatment, and in follow-up. Often it takes some time to understand the patient's priorities and wishes. As a physician, I believe we should prioritize the patient's quality of life and listen to our patients and understand their desires and incorporate this into an individualized treatment plan. I strive to provide the best possible care to all of my patients." Landis received his degree from the University of Washington, School of Medicine, in Seattle, and did his residency at Harvard Medical School. Jesse C. Selber, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S. Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center "Robots have enabled skilled surgeons to treat cancer with better results than traditional open surgery. Now we have translated that knowledge to plastic and reconstructive surgery, helping survivors to live their lives fully after breast cancer, feeling and looking good."  Dr. Selber has developed a novel breast reconstruction technique that leaves virtually no visible incision, often results in faster recovery times, and can help improve the emotional and physical well-being of breast cancer survivors by producing aesthetically pleasing results. Using robotic surgical technology, Selber makes a tiny incision under the patient's arm to access, harvest and transfer the latissimus dorsi muscle to form the new breast. He is available to discuss breast cancer, breast reconstruction, and robotic plastic surgery. Website: http://faculty.mdanderson.org/Jesse_Selber Media Contact: Lindsay Kurs, lindsay.kurs@gabbe.com

Therese Bevers, M.D. Professor, Clinical Cancer Prevention Medical Director, Cancer Prevention Center The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center In her role as medical director, Bevers has overseen the growth and program development of the Cancer Prevention Center -- the first comprehensive clinical cancer prevention service program in the country -- since its opening in 1996. Lawrence J. Solin, MD, FACR, FASTRO Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia "The detection of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is increasing in the United States, with more than 50,000 patients diagnosed each year. Of these women, the majority will not develop a local recurrence of DCIS or an invasive cancer in the same breast. Unfortunately, traditional clinical and pathologic criteria are insufficient to define a low-risk population for whom excision alone may be adequate. The DCIS Score is a new tool that can help physicians and patients make more informed decisions, and help identify which patients can be treated with surgical excision alone, allowing them to avoid radiation." Dr. Solin has devoted his professional career to treating women with breast cancer and has more than 25 years of clinical experience. He is an expert in the use of radiation therapy after breast conservation treatment for women with early-stage breast cancer. He is also the lead researcher in a groundbreaking clinical trial that uses a new test to determine the best course of treatment for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is also sometimes called "stage 0" disease. The results of the study have been published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. In addition, he has been named a top doctor by Philadelphia magazine six years in a row. Patrick Daly President and CEO Cohera Medical, Inc. An expert in the newest technology for mastectomy healing, Daly is president and CEO of Cohera Medical, which has created TissuGlu, a strong, resorbable, internal adhesive. TissuGlu eliminates the need for post-operative drains following large flap procedures such as mastectomies, and has the potential to save patients the pain, annoyance, and cost of post-operative drains, which can often lead to infections. Angelina Jolie referenced her drains as "something out of a science fiction film" in the op-ed she recently wrote for the New York Times about her prophylactic double mastectomy. TissuGlu doesn't have FDA approval yet, but has already had great success in Germany. Daly has over 20 years of experience in medical device sales, marketing, international marketing and leadership positions throughout the Johnson & Johnson organization. He successfully launched a surgical technology business in Australia and created and implemented the first-ever regulatory review of safety and efficacy of that new technology by the Australian Government. He started Cohera Medical in January 2006 and led three successful funding rounds of over $57.8 million in capital from private investors to facilitate Cohera Medical's lead product TissuGlu Surgical Adhesive through the FDA approval process for medical devices. Prior to joining Cohera Medical and Johnson & Johnson, Daly spent over four years on active duty in the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer serving around the world. Dr. Mark Pykett  President and CEO  Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, Inc.  Dr. Pykett has the strong belief that more precise diagnostics can lead to better patient care, less morbidity and more favorable outcomes of breast cancer treatment. Specifically, for some patients, proper lymph node identification can mean less surgery (thus avoiding unnecessary removal of lymph nodes and surrounding tissue that is non-cancerous) and potentially reduced side effects (such as lymphedema or scarring) and recovery time. In April 2013, Navidea developed and brought to the U.S. market an innovation called Lymphoseek, which is helping breast cancer surgeons and patients to get more precise diagnoses of their state of cancer. With Lymphoseek, surgery can start in 15 minutes following injection vs. several hours of wait time for older products. This allows for faster and more flexible scheduling of surgeries in the hospital. Most importantly, Lymphoseek can help patients prevent the physically and psychologically disfiguring pain associated with invasive procedures of lymph node and tissue removal. The FDA has called it "the first new drug for lymph node mapping to be approved in more than 30 years." Dr. Pykett has been president and chief executive officer of Navidea since April 2011. He has more than 15 years of pharmaceutical industry executive and operational management, strategic planning, and cross-functional drug development program oversight. Prior to joining Navidea, he served as founding CEO of Talaris Advisors LLC, a strategic drug-development company serving the biotech industry, and as president and COO of Alseres Pharmaceuticals, a clinical stage biotech firm that focused on the development of radiopharmaceutical imaging agents for diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders, as well as therapeutics for central nervous system indications. He also held senior executive roles at several public and private biotech companies that have focused on therapeutics, diagnostics and medical devices, and has served as a director of several public, private and not-for-profit organizations. He is available to comment on advances in precision diagnostics and its implications for patients and surgeons.  Media Contact: Daniela Viola, dviola@makovsky.com

C. Andrew Salzberg, M.D. Breast Cancer Surgeon Dr. Salzberg can discuss surgical options, including the Direct to Implant (or One Step) breast reconstruction following mastectomy procedure. The procedure, which he pioneered more than a decade ago, provides an immediate breast reconstruction within one surgery, eliminates the need for usual expansion over many months, and reduces the recovery time, discomfort and total number of surgical procedures a woman has to undergo. It is used as part of mastectomy (including nipple sparing) for breast cancer treatment or as prophylaxis for women at high risk due to positive BRCA mutations. Dr. Jeffrey Hartog Plastic Surgeon Bougainvillea Clinique, near Orlando, Fla. According to a University of Michigan study, seven out of 10 women don't know their breast reconstruction options following a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Hartog would be pleased to discuss the options in an educational way. One procedure unknown to many is fat grafting, which is gaining momentum as a natural and virtually scarless way to reconstruct a woman's breast after a mastectomy. Women can even maintain breast sensation, which isn't the case with saline and silicone implants. Dr. Hartog is available to discuss breast reconstruction options, including speaking about the benefits of undergoing a preemptive mastectomy (per Angelina Jolie) after finding out they are BRCA-positive. He can also speak on being the spouse of a breast cancer survivor; his own wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and she chose to have her husband reconstruct her breasts using fat grafting.
