NORWALK, Conn., Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica US today announced that ConsultantLive, a resource for primary care practitioners with practical solutions to every-day clinical dilemmas, will be bringing back its popular "Diagnostic Champions' Challenge." The interactive medical game tests the acumen and knowledge of physicians and other healthcare professionals via the ConsultantLive website and mobile web.

The "Diagnostic Champions' Challenge" debuted in 2012 to test the knowledge and diagnostic skills of medical professionals. The challenge combines behavior drivers typically found in games, such as the desire to achieve, with educational content to create an effective learning tool that promotes high levels of user engagement.

Like the inaugural challenge, this latest tournament will guide players through a series of multiple choice questions, with this iteration testing knowledge of topics related to gastrointestinal disorders, including pancreatitis, celiac disease, GERD, and diverticulitis. The challenge will include four preliminary rounds, with the top players from each week competing in the final round.

"We are excited for the challenge's return to ConsultantLive this year," said Susan Kweskin, Group Editorial Director, UBM Medica US. "As with the previous game, our audience of healthcare professionals will have the opportunity to increase their clinical acumen while competing in a fun and engaging learning environment."

Features of the "Diagnostic Champions' Challenge" include:

  • Two separate challenge tracks – players who are physicians in the United States play against other MDs; all other US-based professionals play in a separate track.
  • A new round and new set of questions each week – this feature allows those who may miss a round to stay in the running, and improves players' chances of making it into the final round during the five-week game play.
  • A "save your progress" option –players in-between questions who need to save and come back to the game at a later time are able to do so.

UBM Medica has also hosted the "Diagnostic Champions Challenge" in various specialty areas since 2012, including oncology, psychiatry, and rheumatology. For more information about the ConsultantLive "Diagnostic Champions' Challenge," visit http://games.consultantlive.com.
