The name of the brasserie itself is inspired by a small, run-down hotel in the Latin Quarter of Paris that closed in 1963, notable chiefly as a residence for members of the Beat poetry movement of the mid-20th century. The hotel gained fame through the extended 'family' of beat writers and artists who stayed there from the late 1950s to the early 1960s in a ferment of creativity. This same ideology and creativity is carried over in the newest Beat Hotel's eclectic and artistic atmosphere. Truly a feast for all senses, Beat Hotel supports all forms or art and partnered with local artists, craftsman, and artisans to help design and make Beat Hotel a truly unique space. From the murals and columns painted by local artists, to the stage drapery and curtains crafted by a local artist, and the woodwork, such as the tables, service stations and the bar, all hand- crafted by local craftsmen, the design is a celebration of local talent.
To heighten the senses further, Beat Hotel has daily live music featuring cutting edge musicians in jazz, blues and world music, bringing eclectic artistry to Cambridge, MA every day.
