Yes, we find it hard to believe that a small Australian design company weathered the years to grow far beyond its shores… and now sprints towards middle age!
We’ve come a long way since opening our first workshop, Post & Rail Furniture, in Sydney’s historic Rocks district in May 1973. Our young creative team (still with us today, only now a bit greyer!) set out to define an iconic style of Australian furniture. At the start of the 1990s, we set up in Fiji to pioneer the use of sustainable coconut material for furniture and architecture. Today, Pacific Green operates two factories and is sold in over 100 cities. Our story can be followed at www.pacificgreen.net/our_story/view.
Over the years, we’ve seen a huge amount of change in the furniture industry. Furniture manufacturing in the US and Australia has largely shifted to Asian factories; customers are better informed of their choices and discerning in their purchases; brands have become an increasingly prominent signifier of quality (and status); and consumer tastes in the booming markets of Asia and the Middle East have come to influence product development.
Throughout these shifts, our key observation is there’s no substitute for innovation and quality. Pacific Green has always aimed to offer customers designs that are strikingly original and entirely unique. Products that are crafted with care from superior materials and built to last. (We must say thank-you to our earliest customers who send us photos of their vintage pieces. We enjoy receiving them.)
Incidentally, to mark our 40th birthday, we are considering producing a limited run of our classic Post & Rail designs from the 1970s and 80s. Details to follow.

Pacific Green IN MILAN, HOME OF DESIGN
The Milan Fair is the most prestigious event for international design, running this year 9-14 April. Pacific Green was once again the only company from the Pacific region invited to participate. We are very happy to fly the flag for design from ‘Down Under’.
As part of our Transcontinental Masterpieces concept, the Pacific Green presentation introduced new prototypes, the SCARAB 3-seater and the CACTUS armchair. These will be available to order from our retail galleries shortly.
We were especially pleased with the response from customers from the growing Brazil-Russia-India-China economies, who brought confidence and optimism to the show.
In the next months, look out for us in Dallas (19-25 June), Las Vegas (29 July-2 August), Shanghai (11-15 September).
