Sunday, 15 December 2013.  State Government selects developer for 5.1ha of prime CBD land for 16,500 people to live and work at the Link.


Designs for the final piece of land at Perth City Link have today been revealed, completing the picture of one of Australia’s most significant transit-oriented developments.


A consortium comprised of Leighton Properties and Mirvac Group has been chosen to develop the State Government’s 5.1ha land holding, 40 per cent of the Peth City Link project.


The development site will be transformed into a bustling urban community incorporating a new hotel, offices, shops, cafes, bars and apartments, as well as new public spaces.


Planning Minister John Day said the Government’s partnership with Leighton Properties/Mirvac marked another key milestone in the delivery of this major project.


“In the next 10-15 years, West Australians can expect to see this area transformed with quality designed buildings, inviting public spaces and improved connections across the city,” Mr Day said.


“This transformation will be led by private sector investment which is expected to reach $3billion for the 5.1ha land holding. This investment will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs during construction, bolstering the WA economy.


“The total number of people who will live and work at the Link once complete will be equivalent to the current population of Broome, some 16,500 people.”      


The announcement follows several other project milestones reached this year including the release of plans for City Square, construction commencing on three of Seven Holding’s buildings at Kings Square, and the completion of underground rail works, six months ahead of schedule.


The Minister said these plans were the final piece of the Perth City Link picture and would take us one step closer to reconnecting the city with Northbridge for the first time in more than 100 years.
