DETROIT, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The simple act of giving a rose to another person is the idea behind one florist's attempt to reach out to others with hope and kindness.  He has been making this gesture of good will for the past 13 years in Metro Detroit.

Wesley Berry, owner of Wesley Berry Flowers and FlowerDeliveryExpress.com has celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by providing free roses in bunches of 1 dozen for the past 13 years.  This year on Monday, January 20, Wesley Berry will be giving away 12,000 roses absolutely FREE to any adult who visits one of his Metro Detroit location between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (or until the supply runs out).

This will be the 14th year of Wesley Berry Flowers sponsoring this event making the total number of roses given away over 168,000 in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday.

There is one catch however.  Everyone who takes a dozen roses has to make a promise to keep one rose for themselves and give the others away to 11 different people.  Wesley Berry hopes people will use this opportunity to become acquainted with new people or to renew old friendships.  Like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Wesley Berry has committed himself to creating harmony among people.

Over the years thousands of individuals have participated in this event.  Many have returned year after year to participate in distributing the roses to others in their neighborhood.  They are a family owned business that began 67 years ago with five stores in metro Detroit area.
