WEST ORANGE, N.J., Oct. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ: LINC), a national leader in specialized technical training and a driving force in helping students turn their passion into professional success, is introducing an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing at the West Palm Beach campus of Lincoln College of Technology.

Florida's Department of Economic Opportunity estimates more than 6,600 job openings are added per year for Registered Nurses throughout the state of Florida—nearly 450 annually in Palm Beach County alone.  West Palm Beach Campus President Helen Carver says Lincoln's program will go a long way toward building a workforce to meet that need.

"We've launched an Associate Degree Nursing program to better serve the needs of Florida students, and to help address the shortage of Registered Nurses in Florida," Carver says.  "Florida needs nurses and we're ready to help meet that need.  Our facilities at the West Palm Beach campus make the ideal setting to train for Registered Nursing careers.  By providing a training option for students who want to earn their Associate of Science Degree in Nursing, we've not only introduced an exciting new option for our students – we've launched a program that's going to bolster the broader Florida healthcare industry."

Lincoln's Associate Degree Nursing program provides a student-centered learning environment where hands-on training is delivered by industry experts in real-world settings.  Using the same equipment they will use on the job, students will train to provide nursing care to patients of all ages, treat patients with mental health issues, lead nursing teams and play management roles in healthcare organizations, and they have the opportunity to apply what they've learned in actual clinical environments.

The program is highlighted by a 90-hour in-clinic Medical Surgical Nursing course, where students will practice skills such as oxygenation and infection control, as well as broader overall care management.  Throughout the program, they will gain valuable skills in critical care administration, managing patient and family concerns, and much more.

Upon earning their degree, Lincoln graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and, upon passing the exam, will be qualified to apply for positions in hospitals, physicians' offices, clinics, and a number of other healthcare settings.  Lincoln's dedicated team of Career Services representatives will assist successful graduates in their job search training—including resume development and interview skills—which begins even before completion of the program.

"Introducing an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing at our West Palm Beach campus is the latest step in our efforts to directly support critical healthcare organizations throughout Florida," says Lincoln's CEO Shaun McAlmont.  "In 2012, we acquired Florida Medical Training Institute to bring the Lincoln tradition to the Emergency Medical Services industry.  Last June we also introduced a Nursing program at our Lincoln Technical Institute in the Orlando area.  Now West Palm Beach-area students can pursue this career as well."

"Lincoln recognized there needs to be a larger pool of qualified Registered Nurses to meet employers' needs in Florida, and we're taking continued steps to meet that need," he adds.

Lincoln continues to seek out and establish new partnerships and programs around the country to bridge the skills gap between the abilities of the workforce and the needs of employers.  The West Palm Beach campus of Lincoln College of Technology also offers degree and diploma programs in other healthcare fields such as Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant and Medical Office Management, as well as programs in Automotive Technology, Business Administration, HVAC and more.
