LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Torkzadeh Law Firm (TorkLaw) announces the firm's acceptance of cases involving the defective Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft system.

TorkLaw is a prominent plaintiff's personal injury law firm that is dedicated to representing victims of dangerous medical devices.

"Our firm is currently accepting cases involving the Medtronic Infuse bone graft that have injured thousands of patients across the country.  We now know that the Infuse system was being used in a particular way that was not approved by the FDA.  As a result, many individuals who put their trust in Medtronic suffered very serious and permanent injuries," said Reza Torkzadeh, founder of The Torkzadeh Law Firm.

In 2011 and 2012, the United States Senate conducted its own investigation into Medtronic's practices involving the InFuse Bone Graft product.  At the conclusion of its investigation, the US Senate revealed that it found Medtronic to have manipulated research studies to hide adverse results and also uncovered an incentivized program to which doctors were financially rewarded to use its product.

"Senators Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), have both taken leadership roles and have made tremendous progress in actively taking steps not only to protect patients and consumers, but also to hold companies accountable for their actions.  When we have corporations misleading and abusing the trust of patients, we must hold them accountable," said Torkzadeh who leads the firm's medical device practice area.

The current litigation TorkLaw is focused on against Medtronic is related to the off-label uses of its InFuse Bone Graft product. In 2001, Medtronic applied for FDA approval and received the approval in 2002.  Classified as a Class III medical device, the Infuse Bone Graft system was approved for use in anterior (through the abdomen) lumbar surgery only.

The Infuse Bone Graft system however, was promoted by Medtronic for "off label" uses that were not approved.  A United States Department of Justice investigation revealed that over $60 million dollars was paid to promote this unapproved use.

Complications arising from the "off label" use of the Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft system include various serious and permanent injuries.
