LAWRENCE, Kan., Sept. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Subaru always puts an emphasis on the safety of their vehicles. For the last four years they have been the only manufacturer to receive a Top Safety Pick rating for every single model. This year, three of their vehicles have already passed the stricter safety standards set in place by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Well-known for its family-friendliness, the 2014 Subaru Forester was among the three vehicles to receive a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS. The coveted rating was also given to the 2014 models of the Subaru Legacy and Outback.

The Forester passed all five crash tests with the highest rating of "good." Among those tests was the newly implemented IIHS frontal small overlap test. Out of the 13 compact crossover SUVs which were put through the difficult test, only the Forester passed with a "good" rating. That makes the 2014 Subaru Forester one of the safest compact crossover SUVs currently available.

Consumers are sure to appreciate the variety of safety features that are included in the Subaru Forester. The newest feature implemented by Subaru is EyeSight Driver Assist. The system—available exclusively in the Touring models—uses a dual-camera system to monitor traffic patterns and provide the driver with audible and visual alerts in the event of a potential collision. If the driver is not able to respond, the vehicle applies braking pressure automatically. The technology also allows the Forester to have an adaptive cruise control system which is able to automatically accelerate and decelerate the vehicle based on surrounding traffic.

Also among the safety features are seven airbags and symmetrical all-wheel drive that can be found in all new Subaru vehicles. If the wheels lose traction, anti-lock brakes and a braking assist system help to safely bring the Forester to a stop. Consumers are also sure to appreciate the reinforced frame of the Forester which absorbs impact and directs the energy through the frame rather than through the passenger compartment.
