More than 27 million television viewers across China will see some of Sydney's most spectacular attractions during the filming of two special episodes of one of China's most popular reality television shows, If You Are The One which is broadcast in Australia by SBS.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the filming is taking place this week and will include locations such as Sydney Harbour, Taronga Zoo, Paddington and Bondi Beach.
“I am delighted our State's tourism and major events agency Destination NSW has partnered with SBS to secure this incredible opportunity which will reinforce Sydney's position as Australia's premier tourist destination,” Mr Ayres said.
“China is NSW's largest inbound tourism market and is continuing to grow.
“In the year ended June 2015, NSW experienced significant visitor growth from China increasing by 24 per cent to 526,000 visitors. These phenomenal figures cement the importance of supporting innovative opportunities to highlight the best of Sydney to our international visitors.”
Meng Fei, host of the popular Chinese dating show, If You Are The One, will take part in some of the city's top tourism experiences which will be broadcast in China as two Australian specials in January next year and on SBS 2 in Australia in early 2016. Lucky Chinese-Australian contestants chosen in NSW and around Australia will also travel to China to film the show.
SBS CEO and Managing Director Michael Ebeid said, “Australians have fallen in love with If You Are The One since it hit our screens on SBS 2 in 2013 - now they have the chance to be a part of this cult series, and find love themselves. We are thrilled to be helping host and ringmaster extraordinaire Meng Fei in his matchmaking quest and at the same time showcase our country and culture.”
