The College of Veterinary Medicine is part of the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center which includes the medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy colleges and public health school. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the University is the equivalent of a public health laboratory in human medicine. Zepto Life Technology is a start-up company "spun out" of the University of Minnesota Office of Technology Commercialization. Dr. Collins has 35 years of veterinary medicine experience, developing expertise in infectious disease research and animal pathology. His duties in his current role at the University are teaching veterinary pathology to veterinary students and training graduate students and anatomic pathology residents, researching, and ensuring oversight of the veterinary diagnostic lab and its 100 employees. At Zepto, he is assisting staff with diagnostic methodology selection and development. In the future, Dr. Collins would like to make Zepto a success.
That achievement is a distinct possibility, because Dr. Collins has tremendous personal drive, communication skills, and a willingness to listen and incorporate others. He is also innovative, as evidenced by his multiple patents. He has an impressive education. He earned a Ph.D. in pathology from Michigan State University (1986), a veterinary degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota (1978), and board certification in veterinary pathology (1983). He also holds multiple licenses. He became involved in his profession because his brother is also a veterinarian and a veterinary microbiologist who teaches and does research at the University of Wisconsin, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Recently inducted into Worldwide Branding, Dr. Collins also maintains affiliations with the Academic Health Center of the University of Minnesota, the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, the United States Animal Health Association, the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinarian Medical Association. He also supports various charitable organizations.
