COLUMBUS, OH, September 20, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Technical Communication Center within The Ohio State University's Engineering Education Innovation Center is helping American innovation by teaching young engineers how to communicate their ideas regarding design and technology.

The Center is led by Prof. Mary Faure who has over 25 years in academia and 14 years' experience leading IT projects in web development and infrastructure.

Under Faure's leadership, the Center annually instructs over 2,000 engineering students on various oral and written communication strategies.

Within one course, students deliver team presentations on engineer driven solutions to humanitarian challenges. Past projects have included: redesigned safer hybrid cars, the use of piezoelectric energy derived from pedestrian power, and the development of a smart phone application to aid autistic children.

Prof. Angie Burks notes, "I base my course on the story of the two Steves - - Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. I tell my students they are brilliant engineers like Steve Wozniak, but I want them to be able to communicate and sell their ideas like Steve Jobs. American innovation occurs when we have great scientists and engineers who share phenomenal solutions."

Other full time faculty members include Lynn Hall, Scott Black and James Tichgelaar. Former students of the Technical Communications Center accept positions with globally recognized companies and pioneering research centers. Dan Meter, an aerospace engineering student with an interest in thermodynamics, recently accepted an internship offer from NASA.

Meter states, "I look forward to communicating my ideas on jet propulsion and thermodynamics. My technical communication course has been an important part of how I share my thoughts."

About the Engineering Education Innovation CenterThe Technical Communication Center is part of The Ohio State University's Engineering Education Innovation Center which is directed by Dr. Robert Gustafson. Created to enrich the undergraduate student engineering experience, the Center's First Year Program is managed by Dr. John Merrill.
