LONDON, ENGLAND, September 19, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The American Church in London is changing its name, this month, to the 'American International Church' as a reflection of the diversity within the congregation and community surrounding its Tottenham Court Road location, in London.

Rev. John D'Elia, Senior Minister, comments: "Fifty years ago, the church was established for American families living in London; but today, the congregation reflects the multicultural and diverse face of London. For many years, I have been asked, 'Is your church only for Americans?' Our new name answers that question from the start, and extends a welcome to anyone who would like to worship and serve with us."

Statistics from the latest UK census show that out of a total London population of almost 8.2m, currently 22 per cent are from other countries than the UK and Ireland. This has had a significant impact on the congregation, as there are now more than 30 countries represented in the church, which has led to the decision to change the name.

The American International Church is a congregation of the United Reformed Church and attracts both visitors to London, as well as expats who are working in the city. It has active programmes in music, children's ministry, youth work and overseas mission efforts. In addition, the church provides services to the poor in Central London, housing a Soup Kitchen, which offers meals to local men and women in need, and participates in the Camden Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months.

The American International Church will celebrate its new name in a dedication service on Sunday, 29th September, at 11am.
