Located on five wooded acres within the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds at 75 Colonial Springs Road, The Adventure Park at Long Island represents a comparatively new concept of self-guided ropes park that includes both zip lines-those cables that one rides across from tree to tree-as well as a series of different "challenge bridges" between tree platforms.
The park's zip lines and bridges are connected in a series of different "treetop trails." Customers can choose from eight of these different color-coded trails ranging from introductory through advanced so there will be suitable challenges for both beginners as well as more experienced climbers.
Customers, known as "climbers," wear safety harnesses, doubly secured to cables throughout their time in the trees. The harnesses employ an "always locked on" climbing system of interlocking carabineers (coupling links). Climbers receive a thorough orientation session before going on the trails, which are designed for self-discovery, making lessons otherwise unnecessary. Park Monitors are always available for questions or assistance.
Eco-Friendly, Outdoor Fun for Kids, Teens, Adults, GroupsThe Adventure Park is an eco-friendly attraction that encourages appreciation of nature and enjoyment of healthy play in the outdoors. Tree-friendly construction techniques are used employing cables and wedges to secure the platforms, rather than bolts or nails, helping the trees to remain healthy. Professional arborists maintain the trees and overall forest property along with The Adventure Park's staff.
Aside from a small amount of electricity for the thousands of tiny twinkling, low voltage LED lights strung above the crossings for nighttime climbing, the trails use no other electricity, motors or fuel for the activities, just gravity and each climber's own effort.
The Adventure Park concept originated in Europe about 20 years ago. Hugely popular, there are now around 2,000 such parks throughout Europe. However, in the United States, it is still a relatively new thing and there are currently only around 60 nationally. Outdoor Ventures (the company which built and operates The Adventure Park) pioneered the adventure park pastime in the United States beginning in 2008. Today the company is now a leading designer, builder and operator of them. It has built over 15 such parks across the nation. The Adventure Park at Long Island will be the seventh park it has both built and also operates.
Open For Climbing – Day & NightHOURS: The Adventure Park will be open during the summer seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Beginning September 3, it will go to its fall and spring schedule of weekends and holidays. Reservations for individuals are not necessary. (Though Groups of 10 or more can reserve time to climb any day of the week spring, summer and fall.) The park will be closed during the winter.
