CHICAGO, Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the wake of federal data showing that Illinois households are among the nation's top energy guzzlers, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will release an analysis that quantifies tens of millions of dollars in potential statewide savings available to families through money-saving utility programs.
The news conference is:
10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 14 CUB Headquarters 309 West Washington St., Suite 800 Chicago
CUB's news conference comes less than a week after federal energy experts predicted that Midwesterners will face a 13 percent spike in natural gas bills compared with last winter.
CUB will offer context to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA)—the statistical arm of the Department of Energy—that expose Illinois households as top energy users. The consumer watchdog will release an analysis of regulatory filings and utility rates that estimates potential statewide consumer savings from special utility programs. CUB also will unveil an easy-to-read guide to help Illinois consumers connect with those programs.
CUB is Illinois' leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, CUB has helped save consumers more than $10 billion by blocking rate hikes and securing refunds. For more information, call CUB's Consumer Hotline at 1-800-669-5556, or visit www.CitizensUtilityBoard.org.
