There are so many disadvantages to leaving your car with someone else. That is exactly why it's essential to learn some of the basic car maintenance stuff like painting your car so you can do them yourself.

But while you may be completely new to it, this article here will take you through your car painting journey from start to finish. In the meanwhile seize the opportunity to grab these great offers on quality used cars for sale in Houston.

Step 1; Get Your Car Painting Tools

First thing. Everything you need must be made available so you can concentrate on getting a good job done. Though the equipment listed below may be all you need, but you may need more or less depending on your car.

  • Paint trays

  • Painter's tape

  • High density foam brushes; 2"

  • High density foam brushes; 4"

  • Quarts

  • Primer spray paints

  • Rustoleum high gloss paint

  • Sandpapers

Do you have them all ready now? Great. Let's move on.

Step 2; Prepping

Right now, go ahead and park your car along with your painting equipment in a shaded but open space. Proceed to washing your car to get rid of loose dirt like you regularly wash your car. After that, take away all the elements that you don't want to be painted from your chosen painting space. Finally, with the use of a 600-grit sandpaper, sand the previous old paint off of your vehicle from start to finish and do a final sanding with a 400-grit sandpaper.

Step 3; Masking

For all the parts that you don't want painted but can't remove from your car, such as your windscreen, side mirrors, door glasses, and the rest, cover them up with your painter's tapes. Not only will this prevent unwanted painting but at the same time, you'll be able to economize your paint and even spend less time completing the whole process. While those painter's tapes won't be enough on their own, it's ideal to first cover those to-not-be-painted elements with an impenetrable covering first and then holding those coverings on their edges unto your car by using your painter's tapes.

Painting

You don't want to just start applying your paint randomly. Do the job from part to part for consistency. You may choose to paint the doors first. Then the bunnet later. And so on and so on. Once done, apply your gloss that same way and finally leave your car to dry.
