Top 5 Wedding Trends for 2022

The global pandemic has taken its toll on every aspect of our lives. Not being able to celebrate the happiest day of your life in the way that you’ve always imagined, with all of your family and friends, made 2022 wedding trends slightly more acceptable. From cutting the guest list to eloping for an intimate ceremony and having anni-ceptions, 2022 will bring a variety of wedding trends that many will find fabulous. Let’s see what we can expect from nuptial planning in the year before us.

Anni-ceptions as the newest trend

The restrictions are up, and now they're down again. One day you can celebrate freely, and the next, you're forced to lockdown again without any idea what happens next with your wedding planning. To avoid stressing out about the big day more than they usually would, the couples decided to start practising anni-ceptions. Having an intimate ceremony at the city hall with their best man and a maid of honour, with a simple lunch or dinner afterwards. Then the big celebration happens on their first anniversary. Convenient, right? With the pandemic still raging in certain parts of the world, planning for a sequel wedding will be a big trend in 2022 as well.

Destination weddings

The fact that weddings require a much smaller number of invites, the popularity of destination weddings skyrocketed. Gathering your closest family and friends to go to a destination where you'll stay for a long weekend is going to be one of the biggest wedding trends of 2022. Considering very few people manage to travel to their vacation or tour some of the countries they've had on their bucket lists, travelling to a friend's wedding will sound like the perfect getaway.

Intimate ceremonies at home

On the flip side, the fact that you are allowed to gather a small number of people makes throwing a wedding bash at your home an ideal solution. That is especially true for couples who have a spacious enough garden to decorate it nicely, set up all the tables, and food carts. You also have the liberty to set up the entire exterior the way you want. For instance, you can hire light up letters that say Mr & Mrs, Just Married or maybe Forever Together and create the most romantic evening ambience in the backyard.

A variety of colour schemes

Earthy tones have been huge in the previous years, and they're here to stay. Having a newfound appreciation for the outdoors, people have started surrounding themselves with natural colour palettes. Think beige, light brown, ivories, caramels and coffee hues with hints of green and white. However, the popularity of colour doesn’t end there. In 2022, vibrant hues will also be many people’s choice. You'll see splashes of bright and bold hues, such as ocean blue, mango orange, Bridgeton-inspired blue, creamy yellow, earthy green, and pink-purple. Gold details will add lux charm to your nuptials.

Weddings during the week

Have you ever considered tying the knot on a Wednesday? While Saturdays have been the day of the week when almost every wedding was held, in 2022, couples won't be so day-oriented.

The trend emerged when the pandemic started, as a result of constant date-changing, and the lack of Saturdays in a year. It was virtually impossible to plan a wedding a year in advance pre-COVID, and it seems like an entirely new level of unfeasible today. So, instead of sticking to a Saturday, couples have chosen off-weekend weddings and made their nuptials just as special. So, if you’re planning your nuptials in the following year, there’s no need to stick to a weekend date, but feel free to choose any other day of the week.

Wedding trends become more surprising and unique day in day out. As we approach the new normal with the pandemic on the loose, we've come to realise that some traditions will have to change. From having off-weekend events to going to a destination wedding, you will find many new options more appropriate than the ones you may initially have envisioned for your big day. Just remember, there's no need to stress out about planning your nuptials. Take it easy, rely on your future spouse to help, and as long as you're together, you'll plan anything perfectly.
