Maintaining a home is not easy and requires a lot of effort to keep the space clean and conducive to live in. This is needed to prevent the build-up of dirt, the damage of household items, and, of course, the emergence of household pests. Household pests are living things that pose a danger to our health and the safety of our possessions.

If your home is infested by pests then you will need to call in a professional service like Nifty Pest Control. However, to prevent household pests from taking over your living space in the first place, it is important that you are able to identify them ahead of time. Here are some of the common household pests:

Rats: Perhaps the most famous and one of the most deadly household pests, rats are drawn mainly to food and garbage left out for too long. Rats typically feed on this waste material but can also eat their way into food packets, cereal boxes, and so on. Rats, if left unchecked can bore holes into thin walls and spread diseases to the occupants of the house. Needless to say, rates are a household pest that you don’t want, especially if you are trying to protect your health.

Cockroaches: Cockroaches, like rats, are attracted to food left out and garbage and are also known to feed on waste material. Cockroaches can be notoriously hard to get rid of, especially if they begin to lay eggs all over the house. They are also vectors for various diseases and should be avoided at all costs through good hygiene and the occasional use of insect repellent.

Bed bugs: Bed bugs are a unique type of household pest because, as their name implies, they reside primarily in beds, pillows, and other materials used for sleeping. They are one of the hardest types of pests to get rid of and many times when a mattress gets bed bugs, they cannot be redeemed but instead, have to be thrown away. Sleeping on a mattress infested with bed bugs means being bitten in your sleep and having painful sores over time. Bed bugs are as stubborn as they are small.

Ticks: Ticks as a type of pest pose a unique threat to both humans and animals. When ticks attach to the skin of animals, they bite them and feed on their blood. When ticks get on the skin of humans, they bite them and often pass on diseases. This is why pet owners are advised to spray against ticks and avoid bringing them into the household as much as possible.

Household pests are a menace to humans, animals, and property and must be avoided at all costs. Take a look at the list above to find out the worst household pests in the world.
