Tips that will Help you to Feel Better about Yourself

If you are feeling down in the dumps or if you know that you are just not feeling your usual self, then there could be a couple of reasons for this. It could be due to the stress that you are under at work, or it could even be because you are not happy with your situation at the moment. Either way, if this sounds like you then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. It’s very easy for you to turn things around, and when you do, you will soon see that it is possible to feel better instantly.

Studies have shown time and time again that going outside can be an instant mood lifter. The more you expose yourself to the sun and natural environment, the lower your cortisol levels will be and the less stress you will feel. If you can’t get outside too often because of your job or because of your situation then it may be worth you trying to add some greenery to your office desk. You can also open the window to let in some fresh air. Sometimes this can be just as good, and it can also help you to feel better about yourself in general.

Volunteer

Sometimes it is possible for you to feel better about yourself when the focus isn’t on you. Try and help people who really need it because when you do, you will have a much higher level of wellbeing and you may even feel happier in yourself as well. You might as well receive the help equal to the support you gave to them, which is somewhat similar to timebanking. When you volunteer, you will be able to connect with others and you may even find that your health improves as a result. If you find it hard to socialise then you have to remember that this is normal. It will get easier though, the more you do it.

Eat Better Meals

If you are able to improve your diet then your mental health will improve as well. You need to try and eat foods that are good for you, as this will boost your energy levels and it will also make you feel way better about yourself too. If your diet is high in fat, sugar or even sodium then this can crash your mood and it can also make you feel worse. You don’t need to go on a diet, and you don’t need to count your calories either. Instead, you just need to try and make better choices.

Gratitude

Expressing gratitude can really help you to boost your mood. You don’t need to get out a notepad and write down absolutely everything that you are thankful for. Instead, you just need to think of a few things that you are happy for each day. This will help you to increase your life satisfaction and it will also make it way easier for you to feel better in yourself.

Don’t Talk about yourself in a Negative Way

Sometimes, you are going to be your own worst enemy. You may say things that you don’t mean, or you may even make horrible comments about yourself. If you want to feel better, then you need to change the way that you talk about yourself. When you think positively, this will support your brain growth and it will also help you to be more attentive.

Dress Up

What you wear on a day to day basis can really dictate the way that you feel. You probably have that one single item in your closet that makes you feel great, and this happens from the moment you put it on. You really don’t need to keep this for best, in fact, you should make an effort to put it on every time you’re feeling a little blue. So wear your favourite jewellery, put on extra make-up and wear those new white shoes you’re saving for a special occasion. When you do this, you can help yourself to feel better and you can also focus on the more positive things in life.

Have some You Time

Sometimes, you just need to have some “you” time. It’s okay to take some time out so that you can recharge your batteries, and so that you can bounce back better than ever before. Get out there, buy some ice-cream and watch your favourite TV show. You might also want to take a trip to the spa, or even workout. Either way, it doesn’t matter how you spend your time alone, as long as you are doing something that you enjoy.

Smile

If you want to feel better in yourself then you need to flex your muscles. Smiling can be a fantastic way for you to release those endorphins and it can also help you to feel much better in yourself. If you have nothing to smile about then put on your favourite comedy show, chat with a friend or even read some jokes on the internet. This can instantly boost your mood and it can also help you to reduce your stress levels.

Accept your Status

You really don’t need to compare yourself to others. This will only make you feel worse about yourself, and it won’t be doing your mental health any good either. If you want to stop doing this then you first need to know that the path that you are on right now, is the right one. Look at the advantages of being where you are right now, and keep on trying to make the most out of what you have. When you see your life from a new perspective, you will feel much better about yourself and you will also be doing yourself a huge favour.

Workout

It doesn’t matter whether you love working out or whether you hate it because it really is essential to your mood and it can also make you feel way better about yourself. When you exercise, your brain then believes that you are under stress. To try and combat this, it then releases a chemical known as BDNF. These are endorphins that help to block the feeling of pain and it can also bring about a level of euphoria as well. When you work out, you will significantly reduce your chances of developing heart disease and you can also help yourself to feel better too.

Meditate

One of the best ways for you to let everything go is to meditate. When you meditate, you will experience a decreased level of anxiety and you will also feel healthier and happier in yourself. At the end of the day, you are the only person who can make yourself feel better, so don’t put the weight on other people. Instead, take control and focus your thoughts. If you have never meditated before then you have nothing to worry about. It’s super easy to do and there are so many applications that you can download to help you with it. You just need to set 20 minutes or so to one side at the end of each day to do it, and you can even do it in the comfort of your own home.

So there are many things that you can do to try and boost your mood on a day to day basis, and by following the above tips, you can be sure to help yourself to feel more complete and fulfilled. If you are struggling, then get other people onboard and ask them to support you throughout your journey. This way, you have the emotional support you need to make the right changes.
