Laser Skin Treatment

You’ve probably heard of Laser Skin Treatment, but what does LASER actually stand for? The answer is Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers work by putting out a very high intensity beam of light of a particular wavelength, which is designed to pass through the skin to selectively remove a particular target deep in the skin. Of course there is more to it, but that’s it in a nutshell.

Laser Treatments:

Laser skin treatment is something people are exploring more and more these days. There are many clinics around Australia with fully qualified specialists to cater to your needs, whatever they may be.

Below are a few examples of reasons for laser skin treatment:

  • * Acne Scarring

  • * Fine wrinkles

  • * Hair Removal

  • * Age Spots/Pigmentation

  • * Tattoo Removal

Every process is different depending on the treatment you are receiving, so let’s talk about Hair Removal.

Modern Laser Therapy

No one likes shaving or waxing, let’s face it! And these days it’s possible to rid those high maintenance areas of hair for good. How, you ask? Well, the laser enables the energy emitted to focus on the hair follicle itself, destroying its root and future hair re-growth along with it. Due to hair growing at different rates, you will need several treatments to ensure all the follicles in the treated area are disabled. For laser hair removal, three to five sessions are required in order to see noticeable results, with at least an 80% reduction of hair in the treated area.

Hair removal is not just restricted to the body; it is very safe to remove facial hair as well. Common areas being the upper lip, chin, between the eyebrows, and the hairline.

It is very important to avoid excessive sun exposure and fake tan for two weeks prior to treatments, and waxing, tweezing or electrolysis for one month prior to treatments.

So What’s Next?

After-care is vital to providing you with the happy results are hoping for.

  • Avoid excessive exposure to the sun for 6 weeks after your appointment and wear a hat (for facial treatments) and sunscreen 30+ or higher when exposed to the sun. Between treatments, try to steer clear of sun exposure, solariums and fake tan.

  • * Make-up can be worn after treatment, however rough application can disturb the treated area, increasing the chances of infection and scarring.

  • * An ice pack or aloe-vera gel (after sun gel) can be very soothing after your treatment.

  • * Apply Vaseline or an antibiotic ointment twice daily if crusting occurs. This is to keep the area moist. Please do not pick the crusting; you need to allow it to fall off naturally.

  • * Avoid strenuous exercise and swimming for 24 hours after treatment.

  • * Follow any other care instructions given to you by your laser skin specialist.
