MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LVL Studio announces a new version of Purple, an innovative cloud-based platform for creating and deploying second-screen TV experiences first launched in 2013.

“Purple 1.4 is a benchmark release. The improvements we’ve built in tandem with broadcast partners are essential for today’s production requirements”

Version 1.4 of Purple introduces Live Apps, a capability that delivers interactive second-screen content synced to television programs. The release also includes enhancements to the Purple content management system (CMS), with features to let broadcasters and content creators build synced content playlists quickly and easily.

LVL Studio will be demonstrating Purple and its new capabilities at IBC 2013 in Amsterdam, September 13-17. The IBC show is at the forefront of technological innovation in media and entertainment.

“Infrastructure-wise, the Purple CMS is much more robust and powerful, capable of handling many more concurrent users and clients. We've also enabled role-based permissions to make it easier for clients to control who has privileges on the system,” said Director of Product Management Eugene Plawutsky. Role-based permissions are a vital feature to meet the needs of today’s streamlined production teams that wish to outsource second-screen development.

Broadcasters such as TV5 and Radio-Canada are already using Purple in production to create slick, magazine-like experiences that showcase channel offerings, along with program-specific Live Apps.

“Purple 1.4 is a benchmark release. The improvements we’ve built in tandem with broadcast partners are essential for today’s production requirements,” said Dave Jones, LVL’s Executive Vice-President of Product Development.

“We’ve also made it easier in 1.4 for consumers to discover Live Apps via Purple’s Visual Program Guide. In our view, Live Apps will become a standard component of broadcasting, having tools to aggregate and present synchronized content to consumers is key,” Jones continued.

"We like to think of Purple as the ‘App Traffic System,’ a key tool that programming departments will use now and in the future to deploy, manage, and monetize second-screen experiences, the same way they do for ads today.”
