NCWIT and Motorola Solutions Foundation work to develop diverse, qualified employees for STEM Jobs

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) today announced it has received $50,000 as part of the Innovation Generation grant program from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc.

“The generous support from the Motorola Solutions Foundation will enable NCWIT to recognize and support thousands of talented young technical women nationwide this year”

Through the grant, NCWIT will grow and strengthen the Aspirations in Computing Talent Development Initiative by expanding its local Affiliate network from 54 to 70 sites throughout the U.S. and Canada. To date, this Initiative for increasing female participation in technology careers has recognized over 2,200 young women for their computing-related achievements and aspirations, providing visibility, community, scholarships, and internships, and community.

“The generous support from the Motorola Solutions Foundation will enable NCWIT to recognize and support thousands of talented young technical women nationwide this year,” said Ruthe Farmer, Director of Strategic Initiatives of NCWIT.

Since 2007, the Innovation Generation program has provided $3.4 million in support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs, supporting more than 400 school, museum and nonprofit programs across the United States and Canada. The program awards funds to organizations such as NCWIT that foster and support STEM initiatives for teachers and U.S. preschool through university students – especially girls and underrepresented minorities.

“We are so honored to partner with organizations like NCWIT who are helping to create the world’s future innovators and technology professionals,” said Matt Blakely, director, Motorola Solutions Foundation. “As a company dedicated to helping people be their best in the moments that matter, Motorola Solutions could not be more honored to support programs such as NCWIT.”

Innovation Generation is a part of Motorola Solutions’ larger commitment to engaging youth in STEM education. (Beyond funding, NCWIT will receive ongoing support from Motorola Solutions employee volunteers, who will act as mentors, tutors and experts in STEM careers.)
