University of Leicester researcher compares popular culture from the 1930s with today. Pressures on women to create a happy Christmas atmosphere have not changed in nearly a century – women still bear the brunt of the work around the home over the festive period. Professor Jo Brewis, Professor of Organisation and Culture at the University of Leicester School of Management, said division of household labour by gender persists today. Despite all kinds of progress, women still carry a disproportionate amount of responsibility for this work.
