This Summer in Portugal more than 1100 young people in secondary education will spend a week in labs actoss the country. The initiative Live Science Laboratory -. Scientific Occupation Youth in Holiday - is already in its 18th edition and will take place on Thursday, July 3, at 11.30, in IPATIMUP - Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto.
For many years now in an original event thousand of young people have participated in the program. And now some of these, like researcher Veronica Gomes from IPATIMUP, are today "on the other side of the bench" now receiving and guiding the new students. Other former students of the program will participate telling about their experience and the impact the program had on their lives.
During the visits students will become acquainted with the work of eight young researchers from the areas of Forensic and Population Genetics and Oncology At the Institute.
The event will also serve to commemorate the 25th anniversary of IPATIMUP, one of the most prestigious research laboratories in the areas of cancer and genetics.
About Live Science Program in the Laboratory
Created in 1997 by Ciência Viva (Portuguese National Agency for Scientific and Technologic Culture) the event Viva Science Laboratory - Youth Scientific Occupation on Holidays has given already, to more than 10 thousand high school students, an opportunity to see what is research “in action” in laboratories and scientific institutions throughout the country
This year's edition features 385 internships in 84 scientific institutions, covering a total of 1316 students. Robotics, Health Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Nuclear Physics and archeology are only some of the areas covered.
The internships will last 1-2 weeks and run until the end of August. This is definitely an opportunity for direct contact with researchers and with their daily work. Come and join us
