Star Trek, Live in Concert

It’s coming: Star Trek, Live in Concert

Tickets on sale 7 September for February 7 – 2015

It is a concert event of truly intergalactic proportions, and it is being staged in Brisbane this February. It’s Star Trek, Live in Concert.

Star Trek, Live in Concert celebrates the extraordinary collaboration between film and music as Academy Award®-winning composer Michael Giacchino's powerful and evocative score is brought to life on stage by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, whilst J.J. Abrams' acclaimed film is shown simultaneously in high definition on the big screen at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane.

One of the blockbuster musical events of QSO’s Season 2015, tickets to Star Trek, Live in Concert are on sale from TOMORROW, MONDAY, September 8 at 9am through qso.com.au.

J.J. Abrams' rebooting of the classic film franchise was launched with the release of Star Trek, which attracted widespread critical acclaim and became one of the Box Office smash hits of 2009. The film follows iconic Captains James T. Kirk and Spock aboard the USS Enterprise as they combat Nero, a Romulan from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets.

On Saturday February 7 next year, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra will boldly go where no others have gone before in what will be an out of this world Queensland premiere event.

Composer Michael Giacchino, one of the best-known and most successful composers working in Hollywood today, said it was an honour to be a part of the Star Trek legacy. “I was a huge fan of the series when I was a kid.  J.J. Abrams' inspired new vision of the Star Trek saga brought me immediately back to my childhood, as if I was watching Gene Roddenberry's brilliant creation for the first time on television,” he said.

“For me, the most exciting aspect of the Star Trek, Live in Concert experience is that audiences have an opportunity to experience the film in a way that can’t be replicated in their living rooms or at the movies —with a full orchestra.”

Acclaimed Director J.J. Abrams said one of the highlights of his experience working on the Star Trek films was the opportunity to collaborate with Michael Giacchino.

“His beautiful, powerfully inspired musical scores elevate, transform and enrich every scene or sequence in these films.  While the music as heard on the original soundtracks is thrilling, experiencing these scores performed live, as I was lucky to, during the recording sessions, is profound. The wonder of hearing -- and watching -- a full orchestra bring these scores to life is truly inspiring.”

Star Trek, Live in Concert is part of a breathtaking superstar collection of unprecedented musical pedigree for QSO’s Season 2015. Classical music’s absolute crème de la crème in Maxim Vengerov, Simone Young, Mischa Maisky, Sarah Chang, Pinchas Zukerman and QSO’s first ever—and Australia’s first—Soloist-in-Residence, Shlomo Mintz headline a star-studded year of 41 concert events covering the Maestro Series, Morning Masterworks, Music on Sundays, QSO Chamber Players and dynmaic new programs QSOCurrent, WorldBeat and QSO Family.
