FALMOUTH, Maine, Sept. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TideSmart Global, a collective of creative businesses focused primarily on experiential marketing, will host "Maine Plugs In," a National Plug In Day celebration on Sunday September 29 from 1:00 – 4:00 at its Falmouth campus.

"Maine Plugs In," will be presented by Viridescence, TideSmart's award-winning green event marketing agency. The event will highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars.  Nearly 100 similar events will be held throughout the country during this weekend in what will mark the third annual National Plug In Day. The event will be Maine's first-ever National Plug In Day celebration.

The event will feature Maine's largest ever collection of electric vehicles, including cars from Ford, Nissan, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Tesla.  On display at the event will be a 2013 Tesla Model S, which Consumer Reports recently named as the best car the publication has ever tested.  Also present will be a solar-powered golf cart, an electric motorcycle and a 1kwh carbon fiber Electrathon electric racecar.  Electric vehicle drivers and enthusiasts will be able to discuss and learn about electric vehicle technology, clean-air benefits and cost savings.

"TideSmart Global and Viridescence are proud to host Maine's first-ever National Plug In Day celebration," said TideSmart Global CEO Steve Woods.  "We are committed to not only working with green clients, but also in supporting innovative solutions that have the potential to create economic and environmental benefits for our community."

Last year, TideSmart Global installed what was then one of Maine's first electric car charging stations. Woods has also outfitted the 6-acre corporate campus with 350 square feet of solar panels that power 40 percent of the campus, LED exterior lighting, radiant heating and many other LEED elements.

During Sunday's "Maine Plugs In" event, Woods will be honored with a Business eco-Excellence Award from ecomaine, a municipally owned recycling and waste-to-energy company.  The award recognizes leadership in sustainability efforts and community impact.

"Maine's high energy costs and usage creates a drag on our economy," Woods said.  "In order for Maine to be more competitive, we need to change the way we consume, access and think about energy.  My hope is that this event will draw attention to that reality."

"Maine Plugs In" is supported by several "green" sponsors, including ecoMaine, the Electric Auto Association, Leviton, Maine Clean Communities, Maine Solar Solutions, Plug In America, ReVision Energy, Solar Car and Tractor and the Sunrise Guide.
