How to Achieve a Bathroom Makeover on a Tight Budget

Whether you prefer a long steaming shower or soaking in the tub, your bathroom should always provide the comfort you desire.

Despite this crucial space being small, it can be one of the most expensive rooms in your home to renovate.

The good news is you don’t need to go to extreme investments to achieve a new look and feel in this space.

In this article we will explore how you can achieve a bathroom makeover with a small budget. Let’s get into it.

Strip It Bare

When performing a complete bathroom renovation, the first step to prepare the makeover is demolition.

However to keep the costs down when on a tight budget it is best to avoid rearranging the existing plumbing or electrical.

Doing either of these requires a licensed tradesman which can add unnecessary costs.

Also when rearranging the plumbing and sometimes with electrical changes, expensive demolition and rebuilding is required.

So unless you absolutely need to change the layout of your bathroom items such as the shower, toilet and vanity, avoid doing these changes.

Instead, just remove all non-attached furniture and other bathroom products and accessories. Now you can see the true space you are working with and are prepared for the next steps.

Update Cabinets & Vanity

Storage space is an integral part of every bathroom, and as long as it is there, it should be in good condition.

If your existing vanity and cabinitary are old or worn out, you have two options.

The more expensive option would be to replace them entirely, but you may get away with a fresh coat of paint or re-staining of timber instead.

Another neat trick which works great on cabinets, is to replace the knobs. It would look odd having ‘new’ cabinets with old or worn-out knobs.

In some cases, these items are too far gone. In this case you can save money by looking for second hand items or ex-demo stock.

This is a great way to save hundreds of dollars while still getting as-new like quality.

Update the Fittings

It is easy to give your bathroom a drastic makeover by replacing the old light fixtures, taps, faucets, shower heads and other fittings.

There are varieties of fittings to choose from as they come in different sizes, shapes, designs, styles, and quality.

Although some can be quite expensive, it is important not to choose low-quality ones just because they are affordable.

Shop around and you will find the same items in different places at very different prices. Look for those items with a premium quality and appearance without a hefty price tag.

Paint the Walls & Ceiling

Giving your bathroom a fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive and sure way of giving it a new look and feel.

A good way to do this is to create an accent wall depending on preferences and use bright colors.

Warm colors will not only improve the overall appearance but will also make it look spacious.

Just make sure to think about all the other items that will be going back into the bathroom so there is colour matching being used.

Add New Life to Existing Tiles

Tiles in your bathroom should not be boring, plain, or unattractive regardless of how old they are.

During a makeover, you can either replace the tiles entirely or as a cheaper option you can choose to paint and or, regrout.

Even just a simple regrouting of your tiles can make the entire floor or wall look like it has fresh new tiles.

If adding new tiles or painting, add a splash of color to a rather boring space by choosing an colour to match the other colours being used on the walls, ceiling and from the vanity.

Admire Your Transformed Bathroom

Before you can decide on your bathroom makeover, first assess the entire space. From the walls, the ceiling, the floor, light fixtures, sinks, vanity, shower to the toilet.

Check what needs replacement and what can be done with a touch-up. Do not be afraid to use your imagination, as you would be surprised in the outcome.

Going all out can increase your budget to make sure you set clear objectives and stick to them. Avoid changing the layout to reduce costs from hiring licensed tradesmen and get to work.

Ideas are endless when you want to makeover your bathroom.
