SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Ever since Honda upgraded the Civic from a subcompact to a compact car back in 2001, it has become one of the top-selling vehicles in America. The compact's popularity is only expected to rise after 2014 Honda Civic release date, which is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2014 at the latest. Out of all the models yet to be released, the manufacturer has been the most tight-lipped about the Civic—until now.

Honda has just confirmed that the compact will be receiving a "mid-cycle refresh," meaning the Civic will get some new enhancements. The manufacturer announced that the improved Honda Civic will be unveiled at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas on Nov. 5. The SEMA Show will provide consumers with the first look at the new model.

The announced changes come as a bit of a surprise seeing as the Honda Civic received major changes just last year. Improvements in the 2013 model, including the 39 mpg highway fuel economy rating, have helped it to clearly stand out as the compact segment leader. If Honda implements a version of their Earth Dreams engine in the new Civic, it's possible that the compact will break the 40 mpg highway barrier.

To stay separate from the Honda Accord, it's not likely that the 2014 Civic model will get any larger in size. If it holds onto the space of the previous model, however, consumers aren't likely to complain. With a passenger volume of nearly 100 cubic feet, the Civic already leans more towards a small mid-sized sedan than a compact. The spacious cabin is just one of the many reasons that the 2013 Civic was chosen as one of the 10 Best Family Cars by Parents magazine and Edmunds.com.

When the new 2014 Honda Civic is unveiled at the SEMA Show in early November, the specifics of the compact will be more apparent.
