Realising Youth Potential in Innovation and Technology
HONG KONG, CHINA - Media OutReach - April 24, 2015 - The Award Presentation Ceremony of Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2015, organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) with the support and sponsorship from the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), was held today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The officiating guests included Miss Susie HO, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology); Mr Raymond CHENG, Group General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC); and The Hon Bernard CHAN, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Scheme's Awardee Selection Committee. The awards to 25 outstanding undergraduates from local universities this year, were presented by Miss Susie HO, JP, Mr Raymond CHENG, and Dr Rosanna WONG, DBE, JP, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG).
Officiating at the award presentation ceremony, Miss Susie HO, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology) said,"the Scheme encourages students to pursue their interest in science and technology, building connections and opening themselves to the exciting opportunities in the innovation and technology sector." She hoped the awardees would take full advantage of this valuable opportunity to equip themselves and contribute to the community and the future development of Hong Kong.
The HonBernard CHAN, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Awardee Selection Committee, was impressed by the awardees' passion in pursuing their interests in innovation and technology. "The Selection Committee was also highly impressed by the quality of the awardees. During the interview process, we were pleased to discover that those elites were quick to respond, open-minded and adaptive to new ideas," he added.
Mr Raymond CHENG, Group General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited stated, "Congratulations to the 25 awardees of this year's scholarship scheme. By giving our students a scholarship, HSBC wants to support them through their journey ahead." Mr Raymond CHENG also encouraged awardees to make the best use of the learning opportunities that come with the Scheme, and achieve success.
Dr Rosanna WONG, DBE, JP, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups extended her special thanks to ITC and HSBC for their generous sponsorship over the years, as well as the strong support of all sectors and groups. She mentioned, "the Scheme pulls together the efforts of various sectors of the city. These new scholars will be thoroughly inspired and stimulated in the future innovation and technology sector."

Nurturing talents in innovation and technology
125 outstanding undergraduates awarded scholarship for 5 consecutive years
Established in 2011, the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme aims to nurture young talents by recognising outstanding undergraduates in science-related streams at local universities. Nominated by the university presidents and then selected by the Awardee Selection Committee with members from different sectors, 25 new awardees will receive HK$150,000 each to participate in a series of initiatives, including Overseas or Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme. The Scheme offers them opportunities to express their innovative ideas, and nurture their passion and commitment towards science and technology for future developments and challenges. Each awardee is assigned with a mentor who is a distinguished personality in the world of innovation and technology. The mentors include vice-chancellors and presidents of universities, professionals, as well as senior management of technology companies.
